  1. What is the Offshore Wind Academy (OWA)?

Answer:
The Offshore Wind Academy (OWA) is a global education and training initiative designed to empower professionals, organizations, and governments in the offshore wind industry through expert-led courses and workforce development programs. It is driven by offshore wind industry leaders committed to advancing sector growth and innovation worldwide.  

  1. Who can benefit from OWA courses? 

Answer:
Our courses are designed for a broad audience including: 

  • Industry professionals seeking to deepen offshore wind knowledge 
  • New entrants and career changers exploring offshore wind 
  • Suppliers, manufacturers, and service providers 
  • Government personnel involved in energy policy and regulation 
  • Organizations looking to train teams on offshore wind fundamentals  
  1. What types of courses do you offer?

Answer:
OWA offers both live interactive courses and recorded/self-paced sessions that cover essential aspects of offshore wind—from lifecycle project knowledge to technical insights provided by real industry subject matter experts. OWA also offers in-person workshops and private corporate runs of courses to facilitate hands on learning and tailored training. 

  1. Are your courses globally accessible?

Answer:
Yes. Originally launched as the American Offshore Wind Academy, OWA has expanded globally to meet international demand. OWA recently released it’s “self-paced learning portal” for flexible, on-demand learning across time zones, making training accessible worldwide. OWA has also run several workshops in the US, UK, & Taiwan. 

  1. How do your courses help my career or organization?

Answer:
OWA courses provide: 

  • Industry-relevant knowledge from practitioners with decades of experience 
  • A structured understanding of offshore wind development and operations 
  • Enhanced credibility in the renewable energy sector 
  • Pathways to career advancement or organizational competency building.  
  1. Do you offer certificates or accreditation?

Answer:
Upon completing at least 50% of the course and achieving a minimum passing score on the post-course assessment, participants will receive a course certificate valid for three years. This certificate verifies that the essential learning outcomes of the course have been met. While not mandatory, this certification is currently undergoing an accreditation process to further enhance its value, allowing it to be used for job applications, promotions, and professional license renewals, such as the PE (Professional Engineer) license. 

  1. Are scholarships or financial assistance available? 

Answer:
Yes. OWA offers scholarships and financial assistance options for eligible participants, including underrepresented groups. We also work to support minority and women-owned businesses with resources and networking opportunities. OWA is committed to providing financial assistance to individuals who demonstrate a passion for renewable energy and the potential to contribute to the industry’s future growth. Scholarships are awarded on a case-by-case basis and are intended to make our comprehensive training programs accessible to a diverse range of participants.

  1. What is the process for complaints and appeals?

Answer:
OWA has a formal process for addressing concerns related to certificates and academy affairs. Complaints and appeals can be submitted via email or the contact form. Acknowledgement occurs within 3 business days, and resolutions are communicated within 15 business days.  

  1. How do I stay updated on new courses and news?

Answer:
Sign up for our newsletter on the website to receive updates on new courses, industry insights, press releases, and other Offshore Wind Academy news. You can also follow us on LinkedIn, where we announce course updates, events, webinars, and more. 

  1. What are the key differences between OWA’s live courses and recorded sessions?

Answer: OWA’s live courses consist of 1–3-day sessions taught live by subject matter experts. They typically feature guest speakers, expert panel discussions, interactive case studies and activities, breakout sessions, networking, and access to OWA’s alumni network. OWA’s on-demand courses do not include instructor Q&A, networking opportunities, or the official OWA Certificate, ensuring a streamlined learning experience focused on core instructional content. They do not require scheduling and can be taken anytime, at your own pace, allowing you to revisit lessons and master the course material. 

  1. What is your refund & cancellation policy?

Answer: At the Offshore Wind Academy (OWA), we strive to provide high-quality training and educational experience. We understand that circumstances may change, and we have established the following refund and cancellation policy to ensure fairness and transparency. 

1. Full Refund Eligibility 

Participants are eligible for a full refund if a cancellation request is made within 24 hours of course enrollment. 

2. Partial Refunds 

Cancellations made after the initial 24-hour period but up to two months before the scheduled course date will be eligible for a 50% refund. Due to program demand and the volume of preprogram preparation, no refunds will be issued if cancellation occurs less than two months before the course start date. 

  1. Can organizations purchase group training or request custom programs? 

Answer: Yes, OWA offers private “corporate runs” of our courses exclusively for organizations interested in full team training. With this format, content can be tailored to the needs of the organization, offering a private, customized training experience. 

  1. Do I need prior offshore wind or engineering experience to enroll?

Answer: While prior offshore wind experience is not a requirement, certain courses such as our “Offshore Wind Upskilling Course” may be better suited for individuals who are new to the sector or are looking to transition into the offshore wind industry. Other courses such as our “Offshore Wind Transmission Course” contain heavy technical information that is better suited for those with prior experience in electrical engineering or transmission systems.

  1. What topics are covered across the offshore wind project lifecycle?

Answer: OWA offers a variety of courses that cover a broad range of topics across the offshore wind project life cycle. Topics include, transmission, foundations, ports & vessels, robotics, metocean, finance, risk management, operations & maintenance, permitting, geophysical & geotechnical surveying, auctions & bid strategies, floating offshore wind, EPCI strategies, policy & regulations, AI applications, and more.
